Maritime Launch Services is a Canadian-owned commercial space company building Spaceport Nova Scotia near the communities of Canso, Hazel Hill and Little Dover in the Municipality of Guysborough, Nova Scotia. Role Overview

As Controller, you will play a critical role in strengthening and maturing the company’s finance function as Maritime Launch continues to grow as a publicly listed company. Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee core accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls while helping implement scalable financial processes, systems, and governance appropriate for a growing public company.

This role is ideal for a CPA who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment where systems and processes are still being developed. You will contribute both operationally and strategically: ensuring strong financial stewardship today while helping build the finance function needed to support the company’s long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

As Controller, you will help build and manage the financial backbone of the organization.

Your responsibilities will include:

Financial Reporting & Close Process

Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes while ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.

Public Company Compliance

Support regulatory reporting and compliance obligations associated with being a publicly listed company, including disclosure requirements and coordination with external auditors.

Internal Controls & Governance

Develop, implement, and maintain strong financial controls, policies, and procedures that support transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance.

Finance Process Development

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and scalability within the finance function by enhancing workflows, documentation, and automation.

Systems & Technology

Support the continued development and optimization of the company’s financial systems, including leveraging ERP capabilities such as NetSuite to improve financial visibility and operational efficiency.

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and provide insights to senior leadership.

Audit & External Relationships

Act as a key liaison with external auditors, advisors, and regulatory stakeholders to support financial reporting, audits, and governance processes.

Essential Qualifications

  • CPA designation (or equivalent recognized accounting designation)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience
  • Strong understanding of public company financial reporting requirements, including internal controls and regulatory compliance
  • Experience managing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (IFRS)
  • Experience in preparing financial statements and supporting external audits
     
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build and improve financial processes and controls
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, fast-growing organization where priorities may evolve

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a publicly traded company environment
  • Experience implementing or improving internal control frameworks (SOX-style governance experience considered an asset)
  • Experience with financial systems implementation or optimization
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP or similar cloud-based financial systems
  • Prior experience in high-growth, startup, or scale-up environments
  • Background supporting capital raises, investor reporting, and board reporting
  • Experience with construction accounting, setting up, and running project management reporting
