Maritime Launch Services is a Canadian-owned commercial space company building Spaceport Nova Scotia near the communities of Canso, Hazel Hill and Little Dover in the Municipality of Guysborough, Nova Scotia. Role Overview

As the Manager, Communications and Community, you will support the execution of Maritime Launch’s communications and community engagement work as we progress from suborbital activities toward orbital launch operations and missions beyond.

Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Affairs, you will help translate complex and technical work into clear, engaging communications for diverse audiences, including community members, government and regulatory stakeholders, investors, launch customers, partners, media, and the general public. You will support Maritime Launch’s presence at job fairs, conferences, and public information sessions, and contribute to mission-related outreach and community updates.

This is a highly collaborative role that combines writing, planning, stakeholder engagement, and event execution, helping ensure Maritime Launch shows up as a trusted operator as Canada’s first commercial orbital spaceport advances.

Key Responsibilities

Communications and Content Development

  • Support development and execution of communications plans related to company milestones, stakeholder engagement activities, and mission readiness.
  • Draft, edit, and coordinate high-quality communications materials including announcements, briefing notes, stakeholder correspondence, web copy, scripts, event messaging, speaking notes, and other content as required.
  • Translate technical and operational information into clear messaging for public audiences while ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Ensure communications products align with Maritime Launch’s corporate reputation objectives and evolving brand identity.

Community Engagement and Outreach

  • Support Maritime Launch’s community engagement and public outreach activities, including stakeholder updates, correspondence, meeting support, and coordination of community-facing materials.
  • Assist in planning and delivery of community information sessions and engagement events related to Spaceport Nova Scotia development and mission activities.
  • Help ensure stakeholders and community members are informed about what to expect before, during, and after mission events, including how and where to access updates.
  • Identify and grow relationships with local businesses for collaborations, where appropriate, supporting the wider Nova Scotian economy

Digital Communications and Social Media

  • Support management of Maritime Launch’s external communications channels, including social media and web presence.
  • Create and coordinate social media content, including planning calendars, drafting posts, and publishing updates.
  • Coordinate website content updates using CMS tools and support work with external web partners as required.
  • Track, monitor, and report on engagement metrics and performance to support continuous improvement.

Events, Conferences, and Job Fairs

  • Represent Maritime Launch at job fairs, conferences, industry events, and community forums as required.
  • Coordinate Maritime Launch participation in external events, including booth materials, signage, handouts, merchandise, presentations, scheduling, and logistics.
  • Support the planning and execution of workshops, site tours, meetings, and stakeholder events.
  • Coordinate event-related communications, including invitations, promotional materials, social media posts, follow-up materials, and stakeholder correspondence.
  • Support public-facing communications during operational periods, including mission updates and community information products, in alignment with internal procedures , regulated operations, and stakeholder requirements.
  • Support the operations team with planning and coordination of mission-period events and on-site engagement activities, including schedules/run-of-show, stakeholder touchpoints, and communications readiness.
  • Provide coordination support to the operations team for operational event logistics, including badging/access coordination, guest arrivals, food and hospitality planning, on-site materials, and stakeholder hosting requirements, in collaboration with internal teams and partners.
  • Contribute to a high-performing communications workflow leading up to and during mission milestones, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timeliness.

Essential Qualifications

  • University degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–7 years of relevant experience in communications, public engagement, marketing, or stakeholder engagement roles.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with demonstrated ability to produce clear and professional communications products.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong judgment and discretion, including the ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • High interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting community engagement, outreach, or communications in government, infrastructure, or highly regulated environments.
  • Experience coordinating events, stakeholder sessions, or public information sessions.
  • Demonstrated experience with social media management and content creation in a professional environment.
  • Familiarity with website CMS systems, analytics, and digital performance reporting tools.
  • Understanding of Nova Scotia communities and rural stakeholder engagement is considered an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed to support events and critical milestones.
  • Willingness to travel to and from Maritime Launch HQ, stakeholder events, and the Spaceport Nova Scotia site.
